FAVOURITE YOGA VIDEOS

I love following Felicia Walker Yoga on YouTube for Jivamukti-inspired flows. She's one of the few Jivamukti yoga teachers consistently adding videos; and I was taught by her many years ago in Berlin

"HOME" STUDIO IN BERLIN

I attended Three Boons Yoga for many years in Berlin. It is where my love for yoga grew, and my classes are heavily influenced by their teaching style and flows. They now have studios in Mitte, Kreuzberg and Charlottenburg, so check them out when you're in town for some truly high-quality classes (in my opinion).

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS

I like using cork blocks in poses where I am looking for stability, especially under the hands. Cork is warm and soft to the touch, and provides a solid grounding that doesn't "give". I find it ideal in poses such as a forward bend to help one reach the floor, and in balances such as half moon to add stability through the hands. These are the ones I have (they're the regular block size).

I prefer foam blocks if I use them to elevate my hips or my seat, or when I use them supine under my torso to open the front of the body; e.g. when we place a block under the sacrum in half-wheel or viparita karani ("legs up the wall" pose), when we sit on a block cross-legged, in virasana or in cow-face pose, and when we lie with our spine on a block for supported fish pose and other heart openers. The softness of the foam block feels better to me under the sacrum, under my sit bones and under my thoracic spine. The same brand as the one I got my cork blocks from also does foam blocks (and they're generally a bit cheaper than cork blocks).

YOGA PROPS
SKIN, BODY & HAIRCARE

I like using high quality facial oils on my skin and because they can be quite pricey, I like to buy high quality organic oils in bulk and then mix my own oils. :) You can research which oils are great for your skin type, but generally argan oil is recommended and also a pricey option, so that is one I'd definitely recommend ordering food-grade and then mixing with any other oils you like yourself. I think an exellent deal for an organic, cold-pressed argan oil is this one.

Castor oil is meant to be great mixed with other oils for an anti-aging effect, and can be used for detoxes in castor oil packs, e.g. on the liver. Again, I have bulk-bought this oil in high quality. The brand I chose is this one.

My hair tends to be dry, brittle and break easily. I've had real trouble finding suitable natural solutions and the one that really works for me is using a cassia obovata hair mask. Again, I bulk bought the powder ;), which I think makes sense if you want to use the mask once or twice a month. Cassia obovata is a fully natural hair treatment that leaves hair softer and more nourished. The cassia obovata I use is this one.

Another tip is using a silk cap at night. I use this one and it helps keep the glossy finish of the cassia obovata longer, and seems to reduce hair breakage.

A final tip is using baking soda as deodorant. It works incredibly well and if you bulk buy it, you can also use it with some bath salts for a detoxing bath.

CLEAN WATER

Clean, high quality water is essential for well-being and health. Depending on where you live, the tap water can be of higher or lower quality. When I spent time in Malta and Sicily, I didn't want to buy heavy and pricey glass bottles, or water that had sat in plastic bottles for a long time. I really like TAPP Water's stylish and practical solutions for in the home, and Bachgold's portable filter for travel and outdoors.

I also like the container I keep my water in to contribute to it positively.

  • In Ayurveda, storing water in copper vessels is considered beneficial for digestion, immunity and for purifying water due to copper's antibacterial properties. Copper is also an essential trace mineral and drinking water from copper vessels is said to support keeping the body in balance. I also love my copper drinking bottle for aesthetic reasons, I think it is really beautiful. I have this one. Beware, copper can "bruise" (dent - its a soft metal) easily so treat with care :)

  • You can also add small crystals in water to energise it with the properties/frequency of those crystals. Shungite has proven to actually cleanse water of toxins; in fact I noticed that a day-old tea in a cup with shungite remained fresh-tasting, while day-old tea in a cup without it had that slightly soapy, off taste of too-old tea. Elite shungite such as this one has the strongest cleansing properties. If you're interested, I recommend researching it a bit further and trying it. :) You can add the stone to any regular water bottle (that's what I do).

  • Finally, I love this huge thermos I bought some years back: it keeps drinks wonderfully warm, the insides are all stainless steal (so your hot water doesn't touch plastic) and there's a removable mesh on top that is great if you put loose tea or herbs in it - so they can soak and when you pour it holds the loose tea back/out of your cup. High quality for a very mundane price, I think.
